Brent Coin of Greenville, Kentucky said in an earlier guest book entry that it’s not right to judge. While it’s true that Matt 7:1-6 says we are not to judge, if studied in its context and in conjunction with the rest of scripture, it is clearly teaching not to judge in an unrighteous manner. If we read the following scriptures, John 7:24, Eph 5:11; 1 Cor 2: 15; 5:12; 6:2-3; 10:15; 14:29; Romans 16:17, we can see that we are definitely commanded to judge and expose those in sin as long as WE are not in sin. Paul frequently named people who were in sin and commanded believers NOT to have fellowship with them in the hopes of shaming them into repentance. Equally, we the Church are commanded to judge a brother or sister (as long as our hearts are right and humble before God), in the hopes of restoring them. I also need to add that the scripture Brent quoted (John 8:1-11 ) is often abused in an attempt to turn a blind eye to our own sin. Such people love to quote the first half about not pointing a finger but they fail to acknowledge that Jesus also commanded the woman in adultery to STOP SINNING (v.11). I guarantee you that IF this woman did not heed Jesus’ command but continued in her adultery, she went to hell when she died. The current (and regretfully prevalent) understanding of divorce in the scriptures is that one may divorce if their spouse if the other has committed adultery. While this current belief in itself is scripturally faulty, even if it wasn’t faulty, on this foundation alone Amy has NEVER had any scriptural justification to run out on her husband and marry another. Consequentially, she is fulfilling Matthew 5:32, 19:9; Mark 10:11-12; Luke16:18; and disobeying Romans 7:2-3; 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, 39. She is living in a continual state of adultery. Now, I could go on and offer a lengthy exegesis on these passages and other passages that seem to offer a loophole but I won’t because I don’t wish to take up a lot of space here. These verses alone should open some eyes. I myself have suffered from the same indignity she forced on Gary Chapman (her legitimate husband) when she left him and married Vince Gill. It was being forced into this situation that forced me to evaluate what the scripture says on the matter. While the conclusions are not pretty, ultimately we have to obey the scripture regardless of whether we like it or not. Amy and Vince are living in an adulterous relationship. It’s that simple. The scripture also says that adulterers will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9; Hebrews 13:4). Do the math. We can’t let our enjoyment of Amy’s music blind us to the reality that she’s violating God’s clear commands on the subject and setting a destructive precedent to those in the Church. If we continue to ignore the commands set out in the scripture, we will only bring eternal judgment on ourselves for having blinded ourselves to Gods clear Word on the issue. Those who continue to praise Amy for her music while turning a blind eye to her rebellion will be equally judged along side her on Judgment Day. A former fan of Amys - Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 23:03:48 (MET) Amy, Hi!It was so very nice to have met you at the Shp and Drop at The Middle Tennessee YMCA on Saturday Dec 21 2002. We were introduced by Magaret Chandler who works there in the Nursery, among other things. I was the one there who was selling the candles and homamade soaps and the Smelly Gell-y. You know, after I had met you for the first time that day,I didn't realize it was you when you came back to get the Smelly Gell-y for a gag gift for someone! Then you came back later to get Coco (Corinna) and your other "kiddos" and came back and chatted a while again. I still had no idea it had been you who had run back in to get the Smelly Gell-y Air Freshener. But I figured it out today (Sun Dec 22 2002) when I was browsing photos of you and found one with your hair down, and straight, and wearing the same jacket you had on when you came in to make the purchase. I wanted to Thank you for your purchase and to say it was very nice to meet you and to meet the "kiddos". Little Coco is a riot!! She is just such a cutie-pie!We have all laughed and talked about her telling us "HoHoHo! Mewwy Cwismas!" Your children are adorable.I guess we have to give Vince SOME credit for Corrina, huh? Amy,you were so very nice and very personable and we all felt so at ease chatting with you. I enjoyed the whole experience and hope to see you again when I come back in February 2003 and again in May 2003. I had meant to give you a bar of my soap to try to see how you liked it.I think you would like it very much. I will just give one to Margaret to give to you next time she sees you. If all people, let alone 'stars' were like you, this world would be a much better place. Thanks,Amy! April April K. Metheny <Dame43@aol.com> Adolphus, KY United States - Monday, December 23, 2002 at 08:19:22 (MET) I am late, I know ;-) but congrats for a great "new" album nonetheless!!! Good luck to Amy for a new life. And to all those "critics" in this very forum: Who are you to judge a person and what is sin and what is not. That is for God only to decide. Melissa <cmissmelbelle@aol.com> Australia - Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 11:49:02 (MET) To Amy: I hope you visit this website when you get a chance, and be encouraged to see something done so well, because you are so very dearly loved and admired. I am almost 32 years old, and for as long as I can remember, you and your music has had a profound affect on my life, and continues to do so today. I want to thank you for years of joy listening to your music, singing along at the top of my lungs, appreciating every drop of honesty and simplicity in your songwriting, enabling me to feel a connection of the "comfy" kind, like all the things you sang about were just what was in my heart. And, beautifully, that always did and still does enable me to connect with God, on a much deeper level - so that when I'm doing the chores, singing away, I feel certain our dear sweet Lord is standing there with me, smiling His biggest smile, watching my soul soaring to the sky! Amy, I'm sure you already know this full well, you are His child, perfect in His sight, and only God's opinion matters, He is well aware of your humanity, as He is of everyone's. So when a few stones come flying your way, pass them to God and He will throw them away. God bless you, Amy, you and yours, and thankyou for all the blessings you have given to so many, and I will always live in hope of spending an afternoon with you, at the gentle end of the day, watching a glorious sunset, sitting on the porch swing and quietly talking with you...my friend. Keep On Rolling On! Nie! Gonzo - Monday, September 30, 2002 at 19:26:29 (MEST) hello! Bruce <bl@ezaccess.net> Pennsylvania USA - Friday, July 19, 2002 at 06:35:17 (MEST) 'Scuse me, but is ther anybody who cares about what happenend? Only fans here on that page - nobody does really speak about the Word of God about marriage! Amy Grant didn't confess anything she did was wrong, nor called it sin. All the fans do not call her divorce a sin either! So what's wrong with you guys? I really cannot understand! Amy left her husband after years of marriage and several children because "he wasn't the roght one" or so. Why don't you care about that? God cares about it. I think you believe in another god like the One in the Bible. Shocking! Someone again - Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at 18:11:38 (MEST) This is my first time on this page. I love Amy Grant's songs, one of my favorite is Baby Baby from her resent album Heart In Motion. I haven't got her new album yet and I will try to get it when I can. Amy did a great job performing on the Today show that Friday with her husband Vince Gill. I looked really different last time I saw her on T.V. was on who wants to be a Millionaire when her hair was long, she has a great new haircut that I saw last Friday on that show, my hair used to be really long now I got it cut and it's partly above my shoulders and I look much better with it now, I'm looking forward to seeing Amy on Jay Leno on Wednesday, I hope that will be fun! I'm excited about your new album Amy! :) Michelle Webb <mntwebb@msn.com> Sandy, Utah USA - Monday, July 15, 2002 at 20:01:16 (MEST) Hi, I am not amused but shocked when I realized that Amy has released a new album - especially with old hymns. And on her homepage she proudly presents pictures of her new man - Vince Gill! That doesn't work in the Lord's eyes! That is the same sin Israel did: to talk and sing about the Lord and in the other case make their own ways! Mr. Grant committed adultery and I never heard any confession this was sin! Gal 6,7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
