December 12, 2002 December 11, 2002 "This is a particularly exciting class of inductees for the Gospel Music Hall of Fame," said Breeden. "Here are represented three distinct exceptional artists who have been incredibly influential in gospel music's history and yet continue to have a musical impact today. We are thrilled to include them in the distinguished Gospel Music Hall of Fame." The Gospel Music Hall of Fame was established in 1971 and has inducted 122 members since its inception, including Elvis Presley, Mahalia Jackson, Andrae Crouch, Tennessee Ernie Ford, The Oak Ridge Boys, Petra, Bill and Gloria Gaither, the Rambos, Thomas A. Dorsey, the Fairfield Four, Billy Graham and the Jordanaires. Selection into the Hall of Fame is made by approximately 300 members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame electorate, who each have at least 10 years experience in the gospel music field. Amy Grant was born in 1960 in Augusta, Ga., and grew up in Nashville. Playing guitar for her high school and church friends in Nashville, Amy's Sunday night performances at a local church are legendary in Nashville. Her discovery by the music industry is the stuff of fairy tales. Working at a local studio sweeping floors, a tape that she had made for her family was overheard by an executive in Nashville. Soon after, Grant was signed at the age of 17 to Word Records and quickly became the label's premiere artist and one who has been credited with paving the path for contemporary Christian music. With 17 albums, 24 million records sold, 20 Dove Awards, five Grammy's and numerous other music awards to her credit, Grant is not only the most successful contemporary Christian music artist in history, she is the industry's most prominent ambassador for music of faith. It was her 1982 album Age To Age, that proved to the world there was room for faith and gospel in pop, becoming the first Christian music artist to reach Platinum status. She received a Grammy for Best Contemporary Album in 1983 and followed it up with more Platinum records: Straight Ahead, Unguarded, The Collection and Lead Me On. Heart In Motion in 1991 produced "Baby, Baby," the single that introduced her to the rest of the music world and became the first of her three multi-Platinum recordings and made her the first "Christian" musician to hit the number one spot on the Billboard charts. Among her other landmarks, Lead Me On was named by CCM Communications as the greatest album in Christian music, while four other of her albums also landed in the 2001 book Top 100 Greatest Albums In Christian Music. Her song "El Shaddai," was recently named by the Recording Industry Association of America as one of the "Songs of the Century," and Grant is the only gospel artist to be honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Grant is married to country music artist Vince Gill and has four children. "I am moved by the GMA's invitation to be a part of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame," said Grant. "Being a part of the Hall of Fame feels like a handing down to the next generation, a celebration of roots. Being part of the root system of Christian music is something of which I am very proud. I've had the opportunity in my career to sing a lot of different kinds of songs, but without exception the songs that have made a difference, the songs that have caused people to write me letters, to come up to me after concerts, are those that have eternal significance, my songs of faith." February 19, 2002 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 19, 2002) - 5-time Grammy Award winning artist Amy Grant will release her 17th album, Legacy...Hymns And Faith, on Word Records this May 21st. Legacy will feature the joint production efforts of longtime producer and friend Brown Bannister, along with artist and husband Vince Gill. This hymns album will include a selection of both well-known classics such as "Holy, Holy, Holy", "Fairest Lord Jesus", and "This Is My Father’s World" as well as four original tunes. This next musical offering from Grant chronicles her own journey of faith throughout the years and is meant to encourage listeners to connect personally in their own faith relationship. "When Mike Blanton came to me with the idea of doing a hymns record to commemorate the last 25 years, I got excited," Grant says. "I really see Legacy as identifying for myself a long overdue musical expression of my roots. The more life you live, you realize how precious it is to be moved. I just thought how much I would like to be moved again by these songs that really fashioned the framework of my faith as a child. I wanted to re-introduce these songs in hopes that the people who grew up on them could also be moved again and enjoy then in a very intimate setting." Grant, who debuted on the Word-owned Myrrh label in 1978 at the age of 17, has pioneered the path for Contemporary Christian music. Since then Grant’s musical resume has come to include one Quintuple Platinum, one Triple Platinum, and one Double Platinum album, as well as additional six Platinum and three Gold albums. Sales from her landmark 25-year career total over 22 million sold worldwide. Along with her five Grammys, she also has received 17 Dove Awards, the highest honor in the Christian music market. Grant’s vast media exposure includes appearances on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Oprah, Late Night With David Letterman, and Larry King Live among others, and also heralds special television productions such as the Lifetime Television special "Women Rock!: Girls & Guitars," The Grammy Awards, The American Music Awards, Christmas In Washington, an acting debut role in a CBS network original movie "A Song From The Heart", as well as hosting the CBS network "A Christmas To Remember" special. Most recently Grant was honored as the "Nashvillian Of The Year" for her leadership and community awareness strides which encompasses her work with the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the Nashville Symphony. Grant also participates in Nashville’s Leadership Music Program and meets with terminally ill children as part of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Fans can also anticipate another studio release from Grant later this year. Word Records, a division of Word Entertainment, is a property of Warner Music Group/AOL Time Warner, and heralds over fifty years of music-making history. Word is headquartered in Nashville, TN.

12. Dezember 2002 11.
